Project ReflectionThis week we prepared our next project for our fourth phase. We made reflections and prep sheets before we went to go talk to the teachers. My last phase is still photography and I was hoping to capture someone surfing and doing in ariel and then capturing that shot while in air. This is my prep sheet.

Trip ReflectionDuring the trip to Cuyamaca, each of us were split into different groups to capture different things in space like planets, stars, galaxies, and etc. I attempted the planetary role so we tried to take the pictures of Saturn and Jupiter. We could not complete getting the picture of Saturn because we did not have the proper materials such as the power cable. In addition, the batteries were dead. Within the next few weeks we are hoping to plan out a night where we can go out and get our picture. A good time to get those shots will be May 22nd -31st. Mission Trails would be a good area to get the shots of those two planets. I'll remember just about everything from this trip 10 years from now. The whole trip was just overall amazing. When I say amazing, I mean that I do not even know where to begin explaining how great it was. Every aspect of the trip was enjoyable. Everyone was so close together and it felt like such a tight community. I loved it so much. We would go lay on the hammocks across the island while having the entire view of the camp site and the lake. We listened to music, which made it very relaxing. We would fish for hours on end and talk about life and how great things are going in our class. I really feel like the best part of the trip was just the experience of talking to and being in the company of everyone. I talked to so many people who I didn't even think I would ever talk to. I learned a lot about some of my classmates. We cried of laughter while just sitting and talking. The trip we had was one of a kind and it was the best thing I could have gone to. Going on this camping trip made me see the beauty of nature and how great it can be. Staying up late and seeing all the stars and planets in the sky was just so breath taking. Sitting under the stars and watching people capture their images at four in the morning was so relaxing and peaceful. Doing things like this showed me how different things can be without having a phone on you. I enjoyed this feeling of freedom. Weekly ReflectionThis week for school was all about planning for our camping and astrophotography trip. We mainly just made our hit list and our permission slips for the trip. that rhymed <. HumanitiesChemistry The planetary group which is my group is capturing a image of Saturn and Jupiter. The times for the planets are 2 and 4. We have the use the giant telescope and kind of capture a film like video to process the full video of both of the planets.
Weekly Reflection This week was one of the most exciting and all over the place weeks of all this semester. We started off by getting another writing assignment for humanities and the question was, How does the work of scientists, artists and philosophers lead to wonder and curiosity. Week worked on this throughout most of the week and got a couple revisions for the piece. The chemistry part of this week we learned a lot of basics of organic chemistry, also we learned how the apoxy is made and used. HumanitiesThis week for humanities we had a writing piece due and the question of the piece was how does the work of artists, philosophers, and scientists make people curious and wonder. We also had our final photo due for our landscape photography as you can see in the bottom. Chemistry
Weekly Reflection This week was by far one of the most exciting weeks of them all, it wasn't just the week before spring break it was the one where we raised almost 200$. We cooked and sold our grilled cheese to raise money for our project. Sadly we have gotten shut down because of the law the doesn't allow you to sell food before and during school because it is "competition for the cafeteria." Humanities ChemistryTrajan, Jake, Andrew, and I are planning to use different materials for each surf board and we were thinking of making unique designs for each set of fins. Below are some of the ideas we have to make. We were thinking of writing each short journal entry about how each of these fins cut waves different and etc. Weekly ReflectionThis week was kind of a quiet week but at the same time very hard working and we all had to get our stuff done. We watched a very inspiring and entertaining video about 2 men that hiked 2600 miles from Mexico to Canada. Their 3 month journey was one of the most inspiring videos I have ever watched. HumanitiesWe had to write a piece about a place that has an effect on you and write about it enjoy my piece. ChemistryAs of this week we are still continuing our independant projects. Which was making the surfboard fins. During this whole proccess we got taught a lesson of light and how light affects photos and how light works in general.
Weekly ReflectionThis week started off great, we all started looking at landscape photography and writing a lot more. A group of friends planned a trip to go to Mission Trails to take some landscape shots, As for chemistry we continued our independent projects which I am very excited for. HumanitiesThis week for humanities we had a choice of six landscape photos and we had to choose one and write a piece about it here is mine enjoy. ChemistryFor this chemistry portion of this week it was very difficult and took a lot of thinking for something so simple. We continued our journey of our personal project and Im in a group of 3 and we are experimenting with different type of materials to make different kind of surf board fins to see if either of them have another effect while cutting the water.
Weekly ReflectionThis week was pretty short we had a long seminar about the book we all finished which was "Of Mice and Men" and we began talking more about water supplies in dams and etc. In the chemistry part we started all of our independent projects. HumanitiesLandscape brainstorming + Water ChemistryHydrogen Balloons-
What we used Volumetric Flask -Citric Acid -Magnesium Ribbon -Water -Latex Balloon The process started with a flask with citric acid, andrew gave us a piece of magnesium ribbon to tear apart and put in the flask. We added water and right after covered over the neck of the flask with the balloon and began too wait. What the materials made is hydrogen and the hydrogen caused the balloon to blow up on its own. Then later for fun people started lighting candles and putting the balloon against it and blowing it up. 1.Can you store the hydrogen inside of the balloon for an extensive amount of time? No, about the longest you can get the hydrogen balloon to stay up is probably a day because the gas will slowly just slip out. 2.) If we blew up more than one balloon at a time, would it just make a bigger explosion? Yes, if we just doubled just the one giant explosion it will more than likely be a even bigger explosion Weekly ReflectionThis week we wrapped up our Dorothea Lange 1000 word and then started our new personal 1000 word piece for a new photo we took at Balboa Park. We also did so more reading and finished up our book Of Mice and Men. Switching to our other class chemistry, we struggled to figure our ways to get good quality photo. Our teacher Andrew Lerario tried putting the emulsion on glass and it turned our good but besides that we are still trying to find other ways print it on paper. Humanities As we end the week we finish up our first phase of our project. The next phase is will be starting landscape photography. We discussed multiple places that we can go to take landscape photography. My idea was to go on maybe a hike on top of a mountain and catch the sunset or sunrise, Or even go to the beach and catch someone surfing. I feel like doing this landscape photography will give me motivation to go our more. First Draft: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nI6QeNOkyzqeMuHuMVYoA4t_kbFa9uTqZZW1A6PMa4o/edit ChemistryIn this weeks chemistry we developed our photos for the thousand word piece. A lot of the photo came out in bad quality and Andrew got kind of upset with it so he stood in the darkroom for a couple of lunches and then he finally figured out that if you coat on the soft side of the paper it will turn out a lot better than the rough side of the paper. Another thing our teacher discovered was coating glass and it turned out beautiful and super sweet. The way we made our emulsion to coat our paper and make our photos used these ingredients. We used silver nitrate and sodium chloride , It became gelatin mixture and we used it as the thing to coat our papers, We had to keep our papers from getting hit by the light because it was sensitive and therefore it would turn black and would not be able to use anymore.
Weekly Reflection This week started off by looking at the photo from the New York Times. We planned out our field trip going to Balboa Park, the next day the whole class went to visit the Museum Of Photographic Arts. When we finally got back to school we all started our new thousand word but for the photo we took at Balboa. Enjoy the assignments from this week. HumanitiesThis week we finished our draft of our 1000 word for the photo we took from Dorothea Lange and the final draft was due at the end of the week. This picture I used was a photo of a young boy about the age of 9-10 and he was a cotton picture during the dust bowl era. If you click the link that is right here you will see the final draft of my 1000 Word Chemistry |
